What is School Focused Youth Service?
- Part of the Victorian Governments response to the recommendations of the Suicide Prevention Task Force (1996)
- The first joint initiative between the Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Department of Education and Training (DE&T)
- Statewide initiative
- A focus on prevention and early intervention through encouraging partnerships between schools, agencies and communities.
- Target group10-18 yr olds at risk of falling out of school or helping them to be reconnected (Melbourne / Moonee Valley 56 schools)
- Includes all Government, Independent and Catholic schools
Where Does the School Focused Youth Service Fit in for Schools? 
- Making links: information, ideas and options for staff involved with young people around school/ community linking
- Providing secondary consultation
- Facilitating networks and feeding information to key stakeholders i.e. student wellbeing staff.
- Advocacy: policy, programs, individual cases
- Funding for gaps in the service-Individual/ programs
