Minutes of the meeting of the Kensington Association held on 13 November 2006 Apologies: Paul Devereux 1. Kensington Action Plan Members of the Executive met with Melbourne City Councilor Brian Pound re implementation of the MCC-MVCC Action Plan, that schedules plans for Kensington 5 years out. The Association receives regular updates and will encourage active implementation by the two councils. An update is imminent. 2. Proposed development in Simpson Walk It was reported that the proposer and the neighbour who objected have reached a mediated agreement at VCAT. Nevertheless, the Association resolved to reiterate its objection to development proposals in the Banks that alter the existing heights. 3. Public liability insurance The Association will investigate whether it would be feasible and advisable to take out public liability insurance. 4. “Meet the candidates”, 15 November The 6 candidates contesting the seat of Melbourne have been invited to address residents at a public forum, 7 to 9:30 pm, at Holy Rosary School Hall. Teams of Association members have distributed flyers to all Kensington residences. 5. Redevelopment of North Melbourne Recreation Reserve Association representative, Clive Gartner, reported that a decision has been taken to demolish the existing grandstand. A facility including sporting areas, gym and administration offices will be erected, and the entire area will be extensively landscaped. 6. MCC strategic plan At the last meeting, MCC Councillor Brian Shanahan suggested a rezoning of existing land in Arden Street North Melbourne and to mixed use to promote residential use and green corridors in both suburbs, as a strategy to prevent future encroachment as the Port of Melbourne expands. Hobsons Road has also been mentioned. It was resolved to ask Cr Shanahan for more information. 7. Doutta Galla Community Health Center It has been announced that a re-elected Labor government will spend $1m on planning for a redeveloping the Community Health Centre. Resolved to invite the director of the Centre to address a meeting of the Association about the future of the Centre 8. Traffic during the racing Spring Carnival and the Royal Melbourne Show The Association will ask the Victorian Racing Club to conduct a review of the impact of traffic during these events, as promised at the time of the roadworks that created an entrance into the racecourse at Gatehouse Drive and Smithfield Road. 9. Development in the Kensington Estate at Altona Street. The Association has maintained its objection to this development on the grounds that it lacks sufficient car parking and violates agreed height limits. The City of Melbourne has submitted a revised submission, objecting to aspects of the proposal. The Association will continue monitoring this proposal. 10. South Kensington Station Signal Box The Association will enquire into what uses are proposed for this building. 11. Kensington Community Notice Board The Macaulay Community Credit Co-operative has agreed to donate front window space for a planned community notice board. A small group led by Fiona Burnes will develop protocols for the operation of the notice board. 12. Public open space adjoining the Maribyrnong Stock Bridge The Association to ask the City of Melbourne about plans for landscaping and beautifying this land. |
