Minutes of the meeting of the Kensington Association
held on 5 February 2007 Apologies: David Ettershank, David Michelsen, Paul Devereux, Linda Gale, Ken McAlpine, Darragh O’Brien, Richard Di Natale, Cr Catherine Ng, Greg Bray 1. “Welcome to Kensington” project Carolyn Webster, Project Worker, presented samples of the kit, which will be distributed to new arrivals to Kensington via local real estate agents and community groups. Tony Dare acknowledged the City of Melbourne for the Community Information grant that made this project possible. Members congratulated Carolyn and Tony for the professional presentation of the kit. 2. The Moonee Valley Council by-election The following candidates addressed the meeting: Frank Kinnersley, Rose Iser and Nicole Kepert, after which they answered questions. 3. Noise from the freight yards adjoining South Kensington There are continuing complaints. It was agreed that Geoff Cox (environment) would convene a group of residents to progress this matter. 4. Rubbish along the rail line Geoff Cox agreed to write to local member Bronwyn Pike, and make other enquiries to see who else could have influence, such as DOI, MVCC and rail unions. Jim Cusack (MVCC) and Doug Jordan to assist. 5. Naming of roads in the former Simplot site Members are invited to submit suggestions to MCC, via Darren Cleak, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it 6. Application for re-development at the Showgrounds The Association has commented on the proposal, focusing on what is considered inadequate parking. Jim Cusack (MVCC) outlined other aspects of the proposal that the Council is objecting to. 7. Truck traffic in Macaulay Road There have been complaints that the number of trucks violating the ban appears to be increasing. Clive Gartner was authorized to investigate what actions can be taken to enforce the truck ban. 8. Kensington Women’s dinner It was agreed in principle to donate to the Kensington Women’s Dinner as an acknowledgement of the event’s contribution to the Kensington community. the Executive to determine the amount. 9. Reuniting Kensington The Chair, Richard Reilly, was authorized to convene a small group to liaise with the Minister for Local Government to progress this matter. 10. South Kensington Station design study MCC has adopted a plan for the station and adjoining area, including the signal box. It was noted that the land is not suitable for gardens. A proposal for an ‘urban forest’ along the rail line is being investigated. 12. Service to South Kensington railway station Darragh O’Brien was authorized to convene a small group and investigate what can be done to improve service. 13. Pedestrian action plan Vincent Ryan and Fiona Burnes were authorized to draft a letter re the desirability of a pedestrian plan for Kensington. |
