Minutes of the Annual General Meeting of the Kensington Association held on 6 August 2007
Apologies: Cr Jim Cusack, David Ettershank, Paul Devereux, David Michelsen, Clive Gartner, Megan Davison 1. Boundary Review The Local Government (Kensington Boundary Review) Panel has been announced. Submissions are to be in by 7 September. David Ettershank and Richard Reilly meet with the City of Melbourne councillors on 31 July. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the Kensington Association to the councillors, and give them the opportunity to ask questions of the Association. The Association view is that Kensington should be reunited in the City of Melbourne council area (under the mandate of its members and local resident via survey taken in 2005- 90% wanted to be in the City of Melbourne). Richard thanked Tony Dare for all the work he has put into getting this campaign up and going. The Panel has invited the Assocation to put in a verbal submission. Richard, David and Fiona are meeting with the Panel on 7 August, to put the case. This will be followed up with a written submission. Tony Dare noted that when the Association needs to mount a campaign, it doesn’t take much to rally the members. There are over 40 people who will be co-ordinated by Clive Gardner to letterbox and door-knock Kensington over the next month to let residents know about the review POanel and its process. Tony thanked Bronwyn Pike (State Member for Melbourne) for giving the attention she has to this issue, and for her presence at the meeting. Ms Pike communicated that some of her reported remarks in a recent Melbourne Times unintentionally gave the impression that the Kensington Association was haggling over details and being unproductive. She accepted that the point at issue was that the Minister for Local Government had not followed through with the undertaking given by his predecessor that interested parties, such as the Kensington Association, would be consulted about the terms of reference. She agreed that this should be acknowledged. She was taking the matter up with the Minister. Members thanked Ms Pike for that clarification and for following up the issue up with the Minister. At the next Moonee Valley City Council meeting the boundary review will be on the agenda. MVCC will be calling for submissions from local residents, which will then be used to form the MVCC’s submission 2. Neighbourhood Watch Cr Rose Iser (MVCC) is organising a Neighbourhood Watch meeting for the Rankins Road area. Flyers will be sent out to residents shortly. 3. Community Notice Board Fiona Burnes has installed the much-anticipated Kensington Association notice board in the window of Macaulay Credit Co-Op. It will have current minutes displayed, other KA news, as well as information from other local groups. Groups will be contacted by Fiona directly with information on how to display notices. The notice board that was proposed by Cr Jim Cusack has been put on hold. There has been a ‘hitch’ with the terms of use proposed by the company with was originally ‘donating’ them to Council. 4. Pridham Plaza MVCC has committed to redevelop the Pridham Plaza area. It will include a toilet, notice board and be more family friendly. 5. Finance report The Treasurer, Tony Dare, reported on the financial position as at 30 June. The revenue position is strong and the Association’s “fighting fund” has increased. Tony thanked City of Melbourne for their continued support via the Community Information Support grants. Members thanked Tony for ensuring that the Association’s financial position continued to be strong. 6. Elections Current members of the Steering Committee resigned and elections were held.
