Meeting Minutes                  1/9/08

 

Doutta Galla Community Health Service

Caz Healy explained to the meeting the process of redeveloping the community health care service in Kensington. The Kensington Centre has traditionally been seen as the site to service the City of Melbourne component of the DGCHS catchment. 

The current site is not of sufficient size to allow for redevelopment.  Unfortunately, DGCHS is having difficulty identifying a site:  The first is Buncle Street in North Melbourne where there is a current facility that needs redevelopment.  The second is the vacant block on the corner of Ormond and Derby Street.  Neither site is currently available but the most likely is Buncle Street subject to the City of Melbourne agreeing to make the site available.

That the Kensington Association express profound disappointment at the prospect of losing the Doutta Galla Community Health Service from Kensington. 
Accordingly, it is resolved to write to Bronwyn Pike and Daniel Andrews seeking their active support for retaining the centre in Kensington and that this be the site on the corner of Derby and Ormond Streets.

The Eddington Report/Road Tunnel

Discussion occurred over the recent community forums the general direction being pursued by the Government.

Three proposals considered:

1.      A banner over Macaulay Road in time for the Spring Racing Carnival

2.      A family picnic and fun run day in Holland Park

3.      Working with the City of Melbourne to set up some alternative public forums on transport solutions.

All three concepts endorsed by the meeting.

Kensington/North Melbourne Boundary Transition Committee

Paul reported on the decision of the Council administration to no longer service the committee.

That Council be requested to continue to support the committees work until March 2009.

Kensington Estate Stage 6

The meeting heard that we are still waiting to hear whether or not the Department of Infrastructure will allow Becton to dump all visitor car parking into the surrounding streets.  A letter has been sent by Bronwyn Pike, but it is unclear if any serious lobbying has occurred.

North Melbourne Oval

Planning permits have been lodged for the redevelopment.  Clive reported that the next meeting of the liaison committee will be next Monday and he will report back to the next Association meeting.

Arden Street and Lloyd Street intersection

Concern expressed that with the installation of lights in the intersection, bike riders are now having great difficulty proceeding west along Arden Street as the sensors appear not to detect bikes.

Council to be requested to review this issue.
