Minutes of Kensington Association Meeting held on 7 February 2011

David Ettershank tabled an email from Kin Poon from the City of Melbourne dated 1/2/2011 indicating that that matters of illegal parking and fines have been reviewed and withdrawn. Council wishes to arrange for a consultation with the affected residents so that matters can be resolved. Action: David Ettershank to advise Council that a community consultation in the relevant area should be carried out and that a Kensington Association representative would attend at the consultation.
The park’s Masterplan has taken 10 years to get to the last item on its agenda; the redevelopment of the Bill Vanina Pavilion which has a total cost of $2.4 million. Normally this total amount would be split up over the next two CoM budgets. David Ettershank suggested that it would be better to request that the whole amount be allocated in the next budget so that the whole masterplan could be completed in the life of the current Council. Discussion was in favour of this approach. Action: David to write to City of Melbourne to request this possible reallocation of monies in the budget.
A representative of the Flemington Association wanted to alert us to the possible relocation of the Pokies venue at the Racecourse from its present location in the back of the Old Hill Stand to a new site just off Epsom Rd. Action: The meeting reaffirmed KA’s opposition due to the deleterious impact re the changing of the placing of the Pokies and undertakes to work with the Flemington Association and local MP’s to make a submission opposing the concept by the due date 21st February 2011 to the VCGR and the DPCD.
Members should be aware of the new speed limit on Kensington Road from 60 kph to 50 kph. Also Kensington are now part of the Melbourne North Policing area, which covers Kensington, Carlton and North Melbourne, not Melbourne West which included Docklands as we previously had been. This is a better fit with our policing needs. One of the biggest benefits of this is that Melbourne North’s PCCC has a full time Community Liaison Officer who can be contacted directly if members have policing concerns they wish to raise. Chris, who has responsibility for our membership matters raised the possibility that KA could do other projects as an organisation in the area. General discussion on the issue showed interest. Action: As KA are an volunteer organisation people are free to approach with projects at any time but must be able to contribute to any proposal put up. 9.
