Minutes of the Kensington Association meeting - 1 Dec 2003

This was a social event held at Hardiman's Hotel, with informal discussion about current issues. It was agreed to list down the accomplishments of the Association for 2003, and acknowledge and thank those members who had made a special contribution to the achievement of each one:

Accomplishments, 2003

The Melbourne City Council received our objections to the nature of proposed developments along Hobson's Road, and as a result, agreed to commence a Precinct Plan, which is examining a range of planning, traffic and service issues in Kensington. The Moonee Valley Council has now agreed to participate in the Precinct Plan.

As a result of complaints from residents in the neighbourhood of South Kensington Station, responsible parties agreed to commence a freight yard noise study, which is currently underway: Thanks to Geoff Cox who has monitored this issue on behalf of residents.

The Association has collaborated with the North+West Melbourne Association and the Flemington Association on the following issues: Council boundaries, Flemington Racecourse and Show Grounds proposals: Thanks to Paul Devereux, David Ettershank and Richard Reilly who have represented Kensington in these negotiations.

The Bayswater Reserve plan (children's play equipment and landscaping) was approved and completed by the Melbourne City Council, after consultation with the Association.

The latest edition of the Kensington Directory was completed, which was professionally designed and produced. Thanks to Fiona Burnes who steered this project through.

The Association has been prominent in pushing for measures to control traffic through the Banks area. Thanks to Richard Reilly who took a leading part in progressing this issue.

The Association continued to represent residents' interests on the Kensington Estate Consultative Committee, and have attempted to reduce some of the objectionable features of the development. Thanks to our representatives David Ettershank, Lesley Hoatson and Geoff Cox.

August 2003 saw three new members be elected to the Kensington Association Committee: Congratulations to Greg Bray, David Michelsen and Geoff Cox.
