Minutes of the Kensington Association meeting - April 2004
About 60 residents turned out to the meeting, which is one of the largest attendances in recent years. Thanks to Geoff Cox for organizing the letterboxing that resulted in a great turn-out! A number of people assisted us to canvas the issues, including Kath Hulse , Swinburne University, who has directed a Department of Human Services study on the demographic implications of the re-development, Glennys Romanes , Chair of the Community Liaison Committee for the project and our Member of the Legislative Council, Jennie Douglas of the Kensington Estate Management Committee, Kevin Chamberlin , MCC Councillor and Pravin Ram from the Department of Human Services. The discussion was wide ranging and there were many questions discussed. The bottom line is this: Becton wants 150 more units built, taking the total from 650 to 800. They believe they are entitled to have this increase within the existing permit. The general feeling at the meeting was that residents oppose this increase in density . Also, we want to know the answers to these questions: How will parking be accommodated? What is the mix within the 150 of public and private? What kind of units - houses, units, apartments? What height limits? Ms Romanes has asked Becton to come back to the CLC with answers to these and other questions, then there will be a public meeting to discuss the matter. Thanks to everyone who attended and made this meeting a success. The community has shown that it is concerned about the Kensington Estate issue. |
