Minutes of the Kensington Association meeting - 2
August 2004
Chair: Paul Devereux
Minutes: Richard Reilly
Apologies: Rod Warrick, Rod Cutting, Bill Devinny
1. MCC meeting of strategic planning C60 Hobsons Road
A recent council meeting tabled the strategic planning of
Kensington and other adjacent suburbs. One of the key areas
of interest was the Hobson Road development into commercial,
recreational and "some residential" use. KA response
to the plan was to write a letter to address the use of "some
residential development" term in the document as there
is no clear definition of potential residential number . Council
rejected the change to the wording in the plan sticking to
the clause "some residential use". Potential issues
are the development of inappropriate oversized building. Stay
tuned
2. C47 Bateman Road
Omni looking to purchase this site, currently zoned public
open space. The current owner Urban Pacific is looking to
sell. MCC considering purchasing to maintain public open space.
This is the last remaining unresolved and undeveloped land
parcels in the Kensington Banks estate. MCC and Urban Pacific
are both keen to resolve this issue.
3. VRC Bund Wall
VRC are to build a bund wall on the river side of the Flemington
race course. The concern is if there is a corresponding flood
with a high tide and southerly gale it may flood the course
and interrupt the spring carnival or damage the track. Maribyrnong
rate payer association is starting a petition to oppose the
building of the wall. The association has highlighted the
issue in the local community news paper and are also looking
at lobbying to gain council support. KA is to support this
objection
