VRC Bund Wall plan
A representative of the Maribyrnong Flood Plain Committee
addressed the meeting to discuss the impending building of
the bund (flood wall) along the river's edge of the racecourse
and along Smithfield Road. Reviews of the data that the VRC
have based the wall construction on have some questionable
conclusions. There is no consideration of global warming,
tidal data is questionable and the Kensington Banks area has
been designed and built without taking into account of a future
wall erection.
The current situation is the bund has been approved by the
Minister of Panning, but construction has not begun.
Kensington Association supports the Committee's concerns and
supports their call for a full and open review of the data
on which the decision was based.
Lack of women attending Kensington Association
meetings
It has been noted that recent meetings have been attended
mostly by male members. The Committee to asking for suggestions
of ways to encourage women to participate in the Association.
Simplot (Four and Twenty factory) site
The Simplot site has been re-sold to Banco. KA is waiting
for discussions on future developments of the site.
Holland Park
The park's redevelopment plan is to remove the bitumen car
park adjacent to the football oval and The Venny activity
park. Currently the plan is to install angled parking spaces
along Childers Street along the railway side of the park.
Redevelopment details and dates have not been finalized.
Cricket nets in Holland Park
The local Cricket club is upgrading the cricket nets in the
park. It was not thought that this would be a problem from
the Kensington Association point of view.
The meeting then closed and the Annual General
Meeting was declared open.
