Kensington Association Day Meeting
The Association wishes to increase opportunities for members to participate in activities. As monthly meetings are always held in the evening (first Monday of each month, except Cup Week), this may prove difficult for people who have family commitments or who are unable to get out at night. The Association is keen to devise new ways for people to participate, especially during the day. The first daytime activity will be a Kensington Association in the Park event, to be held on Saturday, 27 November in Bayswater Road park between 11am to 2pm. There will be all the elements of a party: sausage sizzle, face painting, balloons, etc. David Michelsen (0419 425 314) and Fiona Burnes (0422 983 053) agreed to be the coordinators.

Public meeting about the proposed VRC bund wall
Over 170 people attended (including state, federal and council representatives) to the 29 September meeting in Maribyrnong regarding the VRC proposed building of the bund wall along the perimeter of the race track on the river side. The main thrust of the meeting was to review the current hydrology river water flow data that Melbourne Water and VRC has used to justify the wall. Many key issues have arisen regarding potential flooding sites, culverts, silt build up and impact on other developments (i.e. Kensington Banks and Edgewater) since the studies were done.

The current construction date is planned to commence after the 2005 spring carnival. The meeting thanked Greg Bray for attending meetings and keeping Kensington Association members up to date on this issue.

Forthcoming City of Melbourne Council elections
Kensington Association is proposing a "Meet the candidates" night for the upcoming Council elections. The plan is to allow each candidate to speak to the community for 2-3 minutes on their plans for the MCC section of Kensington. Dates and venue to be announced.

Right turn arrow at Epson/Macaulay Road intersection
MCC has informed us that the right turn arrow is soon to be installed. Members are encouraged to get their traffic indicators serviced and ready for this long-awaited event.

Traffic in the Banks
In line with previous community consultation, MCC is discussing plans to place speed humps in Gatehouse Drive and Mercantile Parade to reduce traffic flow-through and speeds.

Eastwood Street
Removal of the dirt footpath on the railway side of Eastwood Street may prove a problem for the soon-to-be established Walking School Bus (also, see item below). The School Bus coordinator, Fiona Burnes, has noted that it is dangerous to walk children on the city side of the street and has asked the MCC to review the recent beautification of the railway side of the street and re-establish the footpath. MCC surveyed local residents re the original footpath and found no need to keep it; however, they now intend to discuss replacing the path in light of the walking school bus.

Truck ban sign removed
Residents have noticed the removal of a truck ban sign on Kensington Road near the Kensington Estate Becton development. The Association will contact MCC and report back.

Walking School Bus
The Walking School Bus has been set up in the Kensington area to encourage children and parents to walk to the two local primary schools. Parents are asked to volunteer as "drivers" to walk the children to school via various routes. Parents interested in participating are invited to contact the School Bus Coordinator, Fiona Burnes, on 0422 983 053. People who are able to assist for two or more days per week on a regular basis will be given free access to all the YMCA venues in the MCC area.
