1. Kensington Association list of priorites for the
Moonee Valley Council
Members welcomed Cr Lydia Kauzlaric, Mayor of the City of
Moonee Valley, Dale Thornton, Manager of Operations and Alex
Gorelik, Senior Traffic Engineer. Cr Eugene Hammer was
unable to attend, owing to a conflicting engagement, and sent
his apologies. Matters discussed included:
* Council boundaries
* General maintenance of the suburb
* Financial constraints on giving a better service
* Street cleaning
* Planning issues
* Street planting
* Maintenance and renovation of parks and play grounds
* Schedule of works for Kensington
* Beautification of roundabouts
* The Kensington Action Plan
* Proposed traffic measures for Kensington
At the conclusion of the discussion, Cr Kauzlaric agreed that
a letter would be sent to the Association, responding to its
priorities letter, and recording undertakings and information
that she and Council officers had given at the meeting. [This
letter will be circulated to members when it is received.]
Members thanked Cr Kauzlaric and officers Thornton and Gorelik
for attending and contributing their views and information
to the meeting.
2. Flemington Racecourse proposed bund wall
The Maribyrnong Flood Plan Committee continues lobbying against
this wall, which it is feared would increase the likelihood
of flooding in the Banks and other residential areas during
25-, 50- and 100-year flood events. The Kensington Association
opposes the erection of this bund wall. Members are invited
to a community meeting to hear about the latest position:
7-30pm on Wednesday 13 April, Maribyrnong RSL Hall, 56 Raleigh
Road.
3. Artist-in-residence
The Melbourne City Council has offered the Kensington Association
(along with other non-profit community groups) the opportunity
to have an artist-in-residence for 6 months, funded by the
city. The artist could work in graphic art, music, creative
performance, or other art form. The artist might assist with
design of our publicity materials, produce a piece of public
art for display in Kensington, run workshops for residents
teaching them skills in an artistic field, or other appropriate
activity. We need to indicate an expression of interest by
22 April.
A sub-committee led by Therese Fitzgerald is examining the
idea. Members can give their views to Therese at
